We loved going to the New Fox Run with later Happy Hour now gone. We dine later and in Springfield other than that Chain Restaurant every town has the small local business needs more customer base. We have witnessed that most are not working very hard to stay in business. On Nov. 18th a Saturday night after leaving the very large Sporting Goods Store "Scheels" which is next door at 9pm closing time we decided on Fox Run. We love it there it has a nice atmosphere except on Trivia Night or Karaoke Night! So, naturally we were hungry for a late dinner (late in Springfield, IL is 8-9pm). When we arrive at 9:04pm the young female manager I believe a relation of the owners tells us that they stop serving at 9pm. I said really, on a Saturday evening? So, I curiously asked her when they were to close and she tells me 10pm usually. I was amazed and said really? She told us the overhead is too much & that they would be open later on Wednesday evening for either Karaoke or Trivia Night one of those. I can tell you that we do not ever plan to choose Fox Run again. What a loss for the community. I believe if the small local Restaurant wants to do well and stay in business they will try a little harder. If you want to be a bar lift a Bar Only Sign up above the door. Good luck area family-owned "Fox Run" as I don't expect you to last when your kitchen closes before Scheels closes on a Saturday evening.
Have been here twice. The first time was around December. My boyfriend and I both tried the walleye. It was overcooked. The staff brought fresh and it was overcooked. Gave up on the fish. Tried 2 different appetizers which were okay. But about 15 to be 20 minutes after we left, my boyfriend and I were both sick. We decided to try again about 2 months ago. Service was good. I had a Caesar salad which was pretty good. My boyfriend had a horseshoe. The hamburger patty was flavorful, but the fries were overcooked and the cheese sauce was thick and grainy. I usually won't go back after two tries. But I'd be willing to try a third time just because it is a local establishment. I just hope third time's the charm.
The food here is really very good and reasonably priced, as well as the drinks. The draw back is the bar seems full of friends of the wait staff,generally that doesn't bother me, for some reason it matters here. Maybe because I tend to eat in the bar area where these friends gather.
Great place to get food. Best cheese curds I've had outside of my home state of Wisconsin. Lightly beer battered and quick fried, not heavy and greasy like most places. Grown Foiks grilled cheese was good, came with a huge serving of fries. Wife said her rice pilaf was a bit salty, but everything else was great. Service was pretty good, seemed a little slow for how busy it wasn't.
We have ate at Fox Run 3 separate times and each time the food and service has been excellent!! Their cheese curds and loaded tator tots appetizers are so yummy!! All their food is made from scratch and you can tell because the food is sooooo good! I highly recommend this to be your next meal out!
