This is my favorite local restaurant in Springfield. It is located in an old neighborhood my family moved to over 100 years ago, and the restaurant founded in 1938 still has that neighborhood restaurant charm. The staff are polite, friendly and courteous. They treat everyone like family. Tonight a blind couple from out of town were in the restaurant for the first time and they treated them like family and paid them every courtesy and treated them with compassion and respect even though serving them took a lot of time and took servers away from other tables, everyone was calm and seemed genuinely happy to help them.
Great old style dining. I don't even look at the menu anymore. I always have broiled lobster with baked potato with chive cheese sauce! ! Love it.
The food is high quality but low in price. The fried lobster tail is the best thing on the menu and just flat out amazing. Tonight the market price was 19.99 which is a steal. The baked potatoe with cheese sauce is something you will never have anywhere else.
We were seated right away. The staff was very friendly. The food was served quickly . The server came back to check if we needed anything.
So...the location of this place leaves much to be desired. I believe it is just outside the rough part of springfield and looks a lot like a 30s corner apartment complex converted into a restaurant. The atmosphere feels like a hole in the wall and like you're eating in the basement of an old apartment. Not my favorite atmosphere and the walls had old, cracked wood panels. Additionally, the food is OK. Not very inventive and doesn't challenge its audience. It's very typical steak with unimaginative sides. Expect to have some sort of fried food with your steak (if you order one). The only reason I bumped it from 2 to 3 stars is because the service was excellent. The waitresses were phenomenal, attentive, and I never reached the bottom of my water glass. They worked hard which was why I left a generous tip for them. However, given the location, atmosphere, and food, I would not return here.
This is a unique place with unique charm and it is amazing that it is still in the neighborhood after all this time. Just a hidden gem.
Food was good, quick and friendly service. Good for families and groups.
